Although it has never acted as the capital of the united Egypt, it was the capital of Upper Egypt throughout the time when Egypt resorted to becoming divided into two areas, and that was during the time of Hyksos invasion till the age of Ahmose I who expel the Hyksos and make Egypt as one area.

By Flight
The international airport of Luxor is situated 6 kilometers eastern the city of Luxor, and it can easy reach it through hundreds of international airlines travel there from all the world countries, although it is most favored for charter flights, and you fly easily from Luxor to the most other main airports in Egypt.
By Train
Luxor is located on the Cairo – Aswan Main railway, Luxor has a modern train station in “Al-Mahata” Square, you can easily take your train toward to Cairo or to Aswan, but as for the restriction on tourists nowadays, will allow only the sleeper train for tourists.
By Road
Luxor has a suitable Busses Stations connected with Cairo and other Main Cities in Egypt through suitable roads, but we advise tourists not to use this kind of transportation for trip to or from Luxor only we advise by flight or railways, except the way to Aswan because you will find a lot of sites in the way to visit such as KomOmbo&Edfu. You can reach Hurghada easily from Luxor just in 3.5 hours by bus, but as for journey by bus you have to check your seat at least 24 hours before your journey.
